Something Old Becomes Something New

The other day I was down in Newport touring the Breakers and what should catch my attention?  No, not the gold that was dripping off of every nook and cranny, but the floors. They were chevron floors!!!  I couldn't believe it.  Chevron is a design pattern that we've been seeing a lot of lately, especially in fabrics and rugs, and I had no idea it was popular back in 1895 when Cornelius Vanderbilt built his mansion.  He used the pattern in practiclely every room.  It goes to show you that good design elements never really go out of style.  The modern twist on it today is that instead of installing wood floors in this pattern, the pattern is being painted on top of the wood.
