2015 Designer Showhouse

Finally...the photos of the 2015 Osterville Designer Showhouse!! Overall it was a great experience and I am proud to have been a part of it.  One exciting thing that came of it is that I will be one of the Designers in the "Selections" feature of Design New England Magazine's September/October issue.  It was such an honor to have been asked to participate and I am eager to see the results of how it came out.  The topic we had to design a room around was "Pop Art."  It's definitely more modern and edgy than my usual work but you know what they say, its always good to stretch beyond your comfort zone.

Osterville Designer ShowHouse

I can't believe how long its been since I wrote a post, shame on me.  It goes to show you how things can easily fall by the way side and how important it is to remain diligent.  I have missed writing these posts and promise to make a better effort to keep up with them from now on.

So, lets get going.... my first post this year is an exciting one, because all winter and spring I have been involved in a Designer ShowHouse being held up in Osterville, which will be open to the public from June 12th thru the 28th.  I have been fortunate enough to have been accepted to do one of the rooms, the teenage girls bedroom to be exact.  Its been stressful at times, but mostly a load of fun.  Below are a few "before" photos and a snapshot of my design scheme.  As soon as I get the "after" photos I will certainly post them.  If you're in the area and have the time certainly head up to Osterville and tour the home yourself.  All the rooms are done by different Interior Designers here on the Cape, for the most part, and they all came out fantastic!!  Plus, the money from the tickets goes to WE CAN which is a wonderful organization right here on Cape Cod empowering woman in transition.

Lounging In Libraries

With the weather cooling off we make our way into my favorite season, autumn.  Besides the obvious of pumpkins and apple pies, I also love this time of year because I start reading more.  Curling up on the sofa with a good book and some hot apple cider after a leisurely walk to view the foliage is pure delight for me.  And what I would really love is to have a house someday with a library to do this in, but for now, I'll just dream...

X Marks The Spot

Great design would not be complete without the little details and that is especially true when it comes to furniture.  Lets take a look at my newest favorite accent piece, the x-bench.  On the one hand, benches are useful to have around because they're easy to move and they provide extra seating.  On the other hand, they are also a piece you can have fun with.  Nail heads, a bit of gold, rawhide, a bright color are the type of details I'm talking about that can turn an ordinary bench into a piece of art.  Below, I have selected some benches that I think would definitely jazz up any room and then under that some room views with the x-bench.

French Cafe To Beach House

Living near the water, surrounded by beach houses, I am always thinking about different ways to make a beach house fun.  My latest obsession is using french bistro chairs or bar stools in the kitchen. They're known for their pop of color mixed in with rattan which I think adds a bit of whimsy to any decor and seeing these photos on Pinterest definitely confirms it.  On a side note, in the second room designed by Amy Meier take a look at how she attached the back cushions to that banquet, ingenious!!  Okay, back to the chairs, I scoured my sources for some of my favorites and this is what I've come up with, what do you think?

Red, Yellow, and Blue?

Now that it's summer I want to be outside as much as possible, in fact, I basically just want to go to the beach and not come back till Labor Day! Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of doing that so I'm trying my best to stay focused.  Although seeing a photo like the one below on Pinterest makes it hard.  Ahhh, a clambake on the beach...I seriously could do that every night for the entire summer and never tire of it.  Okay, back to focus, what also caught my attention was how fun the red, yellow, and blue looked together and I began to wonder how those colors would look together in a design scheme.  The colors are fresh and vibrant which I think would be perfect for a beach house.  And then I came upon this kitchen by Ashley Whitaker (one of my absolute favorite designers!!) and was like "YES."  So I decided to put together a design scheme for a dining/living area that would be a perfect complement off of that kitchen.

Last But Not Least...

So I'm finally rounding up my Highpoint trip with great lighting.  Currey & Co., Visual Comfort, and Arteriors came through as always with flying colors and two new companies, Solaria Lighting and Louis Gaskill Company really caught my attention for new cutting edge designs.  Unfortunately, my picture taking of the light fixtures is not that great, but you'll at least get the idea and I swear they all look much better in person.
